One night, I was watching random videos on YouTube and I found a video of a Japanese girl eating tons of food. She does nothing but eats and talks in the video, but I could not stop watching the video because she looked super happy while eating and the way she ate made food look so good.
Since then, I started to watch those types of videos called Mukbang(eating broadcasting) which a person talks and eats large quantities of foods. Mukbang firstly started in South Korea and it was done through Afreeca TV, an online live streaming service. It increasingly became popular in both South Korea and other countries and those who gained popularity through Mukbang had made a lot of money. These days, many people film themselves eating and talking and then post the video after they film everything instead of doing a live streaming.
Some people may think there is no point watching videos of someone just eating and talking, but what they eat actually look very delicious and the amount they eat is pretty impressive. We can also interact with them while they are doing a live stream.
Now, I will introduce two of my favorite Mukbang YouTubers: Yuka Kinoshita and Banzz.
Yuka Kinoshita is a Japanese female Mukbang YouTuber who has more than three million subscribers. She used to be a food fighter and was on many food competitions. I like her because she eats everything deliciously. Not only she eats but also she cooks food and shows us the process of cooking. I wonder how come this skinny girl eats so much food and never get fat.
Banzz is a Korean male Mukbang YouTuber who also does a live streaming on Afreeca TV. If you love Korean street food like me, you would love to watch his Mukbang videos. Every food on his video looks so good and I cannot stop thinking about Korean food all day after watching his videos. I heard he earns $10,000 per month by doing Mukbang.
Mukbang shows are pretty fun to watch, but DON'T EVER TRY TO WATCH THEM AT NIGHT. You won't be able to fall asleep and will suffer from hunger.

Eating tons of food and getting paid to do it sounds like a dream job! I've heard about these youtube videos but I never really looked into them myself, this was very interesting and insightful. Now I guess I know what my backup plan will be if my regular job isn't working out... Nice post!

I've heard about these youtube videos as well, but never actually watched them. Really interesting post! Good job. I wish I could earn $10,000 per month by drinking boba...
ReplyDeleteI also like watching these types of videos (although the channel I watch does this through extreme challenges). I think there is one factor that contributes to the enjoyment of watching these videos. Even though you can't smell or taste the food, you can see the food or even hear the person eating it. Those two senses alone can persuade you to eat the food that they are eating. Sometimes, they can even describe it in a way that will make you want to try it out!

Hahah, it is such a hit rn that people from difference parts of the world even compete together on live shows. It is such a guilty pleasure to see those girls eating tons of food for me Lol.
ReplyDeleteI am always jealous of these "foodie" types of people for one main reason, they actually live the life, they get paid travel and eat food on camera. To me that sounds like heaven
